For gas, oil, and biomass boilers, regular cleaning lowers the flue gas temperature, reduces heat loss, stabilizes the draft, and decreases risks (fouling, backdraft, flue fire). It complements burner/combustion maintenance (O₂/CO/NOx adjustment) and safety checks (gas tightness, pressure switches, flame detectors).
Boiler cleaning: scope of work and intervention
A professional chimney sweep typically covers:
- Flue pipe : removal of soot by brush/rods (from the bottom or top), cleaning of purge tee/hatchbacks, checking for leaks/continuity/head.
- Boiler & flue system : dust removal from flue passages, checking access hatches, seals, condensates (siphon/neutralizer on condensation), checking slope towards evacuation.
- Heat exchanger : brushing/vacuuming of accessible surfaces (according to instructions), without damaging the fins/coatings.
